As the Tail Turns

THE COSMOS ALIGNED PERFECTLY

by Anne MacMillan

I was about to leave to meet a friend at the dog park when he called, upset that 2 old dogs had been abandoned there. Another person had made then a canvas shelter and left food and water (the park is separated by a fence/gate and in the evening few people go to the far end). We saw them, a big shaggy red boy, blind in one eye, and a smaller black female. Friendly enough, the male very protective of the old female. They seemed calm enough. Someone had posted a sign, saying they were abandoned and Animal Services will come in the morning. Pretty bummed to have to leave them but I have nowhere to put them and they were safe where they are, weather is nice. Eddie wouldn't go to the park with us, so as soon as I got home with Chip and Missy, I leashed Ed up and we headed up the street for a walk. Half a block up a neighbor stopped me, asking if I had seen her big red boy and little black girl, they had gotten out and they were frantic, had been hunting for hours. I was so happy to tell them they were at the park, thought to be abandoned there! Someone must have found them and taken them to the fenced park, knowing someone would care for them. Wonderful ending, never would have run into them if Ed had gone to the park with us as usual, we would have all been in the house and never known they were our neighbors dogs. The cosmos aligned perfectly, life is good!

It was a real 'feel good' moment. I called my friend Dave to tell him about it.  He was still at the park, he had taken the dogs another bowl of water before leaving, so was still there when my neighbors arrived, crying with happiness. The dogs had just had baths earlier today, so didn't have on their collars and tags. Love happy endings.

I give credit to Eddie, he has ESP! This is the first time ever he refused to go to our local park with us. And then he wanted a brisk walk right past their house.
