Brunch Report

Rip Van Wrinkle Basenji Club

17th Annual Meeting and Beat the Winter Doldrums Brunch

Chez Apu - Woodstock, New York

February 8th, 2015 (a snow storm kept some members from traveling, but they were included by facebook messanger)

Blintzes!

Present:
Signing in were Susan Kamen-Marsicano, president; Lisa Mackey, Vice President; Debby Mayer, recording secretary and sunshine secretary; Karen Sahulka, treasurer; club members Frey Johnsson, and guest and facebook member, Malley Heinlein. A snowstorm kept our further away members from making the trip. The members unable to attend were consulted by messenger, in a group message, to insure their participation.
The meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m.

Treasurer’s Report:

Treasurer Karen Sahulka submitted a report:

The club is solvent, with the same as previously or a little bit more in the bank ($3,000. +).

2014 charitable donations: (“the usual”) to the Basenji Health Endowment, Medfly Basenji Rescue.

The treasurer recommended that in view of the Club’s bank balance, the Club continue to donate, and give more to each recipient or find one new, additional charity. The group discussed donating again this year to Karen Jones, Medfly Basenji Rescue + to Bobbi & the Strays, Freeport, NY, and to some group in memory of Vanessa Johnson. Karen Christensen, by messanger, thought of “Take the Lead”, which is a good idea.

Details available from Karen upon request.

President’s Report:

Memberships: 83 family, 11 honorary members, 10 newsletter exchanges and 161 Facebook members.

The online Wrinkler and the RVW web page cost a total of $20 for the year. Read the Wrinkler!

Reminder of embroidered club gear—contact Suzy Zeh or 1 888 828-5445. Embroidered gear is always in the Stuff section of the Wrinkler.  Members ARE encouraged to join the club on Facebook. Most are already there, & enjoying it.

Match Show

Consensus was that the New Paltz Fairgrounds, the site of the 2014 Match Show, was comfortable, fun and easy to get to. Friday, June 19, was discussed as a date, or possibly Thursday, June 18, when Gaye Bontecou will be judging breed. Friday seems a better idea.

For the Match Show, Sharon Buehler was considered as judge. Sharon is unable to do this, as she has a specialty to attend, & Malley agreed to step in & be our judge.

Costume class will be “My Favorite Horoscope”. Approved by acclamation.

New Business

Kamen-Marsicano announced that the Dog Writers Association of America had nominated the club’s Wrinkler newsletter for two prizes: Club Newsletter and Graphics (“The 3 Basenji Musicians”). This is the first year that online newsletters are eligible for DWAA prize nominations (without needing to be submitted in printed form).

Raffle prizes were discussed: Handmade leash and collar from Yvonne ‘t Mannetje, years of American Basenji magazine, Robert Cole book, blue plate, donated by Kathy Romeo. Later thought was to use 3 large signed prints of The 3 Basenji Musicians along with the leash & collar set made by Yvonne..

New donations: Approved by acclamation were donations of $500 to Medfly Basenji Rescue (led by Karen Jones) in Acton, CA, and $400 to Bobbi & the Strays in Freeport, LI, NY, plus to Take the Lead, in memory of Vanessa Johnson

The group discussed getting a second name on Webjogger (web host), for the Wrinkler newsletter; suggestion was Karen Sahulka, treasurer. We talked about how to keep it online, as in how to keep paying the $20 a year for the domain.

There being no further business, Mayer moved, and Johnsson seconded, for adjournment at 1:30 p.m.

Minutes submitted by Debby Mayer, club Secretary & Sunshine Chair.
