The small dog, a proud basenji and faithful companion of ours for over 11 years, is curled on my lap. He often cries softly in his sleep. He dreams, I am sure, of our Mark. He misses him too. I know because sometimes our tears fall together.

The girls are telling jokes again: Why don’t cats play poker in the jungle? Too many cheetahs. Why did the cat run from the tree? Because it was afraid of the bark! Basenjis dont think this is too funny, being barkless and all.

Edith Wharton said "My little dog---a heartbeat at my feet." - This is my little heartbeat Queen Gloria. And she is at my feet, on my lap and in my heart.

When Harley was a puppy, we were having coffee in Williamstown, MA and Lewis Black, who has a home there, came in to get coffee. She woofed at him and he about dropped his coffee and hit the ceiling. It was super funny.

Since Tempest was scheduled for a 10:30 am tooth cleaning I was a bit concerned with a 9:25 call from the Vet. Figured they might have ID'd an extraction need. When it turned into a "Tempest is awake and ready to go home" call I had my suspicions since they said she would be ready for pickup early afternoon..

When I arrived all was quiet, maybe a bit too quiet. Kinda like the aftermath of a tornado siren when everyone is cautiously looking out to see if everything is really okay. The Vet tech said :"Tempest did the best imitation of a fire alarm I've heard!" I acknowledged she could in fact be a bit of a Diva when crated. The vet came out and said "She's still a bit groggy but wants to go home. They may not be able to bark but can sure make a lot of noise. She was fussing and whining so we decided to take her first. (Bet he figured the anesthesia would calm her). When she woke up she started up a song so we figured she was ready to go home. I acknowledged that the 'Boo yah' chorus can get your attention and when magnified with a supporting cast attains "Hell-a- Roo- yah" status. I will be paying for this.

Yebo loves his veggies. He gets raw meat but takes out the veggies first.

So here I sit, studying the score and listening to Bach's "Musical Offering" written for Frederick The Great of Prussia, all sophisticated and blissed out, when the Basenjis rush in, all a-twitter, and one of them drops something small and furry on the floor, 5 feet away. I leap up, but Penny grabs the poor dead thing and races outside with it in her mouth, me right after her, screaming. Penny swallows it whole before I can even get close. Bliss shattered, Bach forgotten, and I am sick to my stomach. One of those days when I think my "interests" are too diverse..

Lisa Marshall

Not Musical...but still an Offering.

If they could bark - The mysteries of Pharaoh Hounds; a leaf can blow in the wind and my 3 are barking like crazy because just maybe a squirrel moved it? Workers in front of my house are taking down a tree 2 times or more the size of my house and they rest quietly on my couch? A man walks across the street Phalcon is up barking like mad, when he is gone Phalcon looks at the tree workers and goes back to sleep on the couch.

I was so sure this day would be a barking fest and they have fooled me, good dogs.

Mai now Baroos along with the dogs.

Rippy-puppy stole my $1 bamboo back scratcher off the counter. I applied its intended function to him and I think I heard him purr.

FRENCH TOAST

Andrea Stone: as it turns out, Basenjis love French toast.

Jackie Dering: I learned several years ago that they also love sweet rolls that fall on the floor and that they can eat very large pieces very quickly.

Lisa Stewart: French toast is a favorite with all of mine, my whippet will whine whenever she sees us with a biscuit or roll, last night she extorted part of my pretzel roll from me.

Storm, who is usually a very dignified girl, let loose a few minutes ago. in repsonse to the Beattle's song, "I Want to Hold Your Hand". Standing in the middle of the area rug, in front of the TV, there she stood, with her butt in the air, curly tail wagging. This is the first song I've ever seen her react to since she came to live with me. It was really hilarious.
