In Memoriam

Our hearts go out to Mary Beth Printsky on the sudden passing of her beloved husband, Mark.

Our condolences to Kim McNeill on the passing of Jet. Ch Jerlin's Saint or Sinner SC AX AXJ RN FCh NAC NJC CGC. “He always put a ‘trying’ twist to things.  He was a fun, but complex little dog and the house is definitely a sadder place for his passing.”

Our sympathies to Garrett O’Dell on the passing of Benny – “Today at two o'clock PM, my Benny left for the Bridge. Poco Loco Pan Blackened RMB NAJ NJP. He was just three days shy of his fifteenth birthday. Benny ran agility with me. He ran with all of his heart and soul, only messing up if I did, and adored me as much as I adored him. I retired him when I could outrun him (and those who know me know how slow that was). His life revolved around sleeping on the couch by my side, sleeping beside my bed at night, and announcing the arrival of every visitor. There is a hole in my heart, but I held him as he passed, and promised him peace.”

Our Condolences to Barbara and Dennis Narehood on the passing of Kiasa.

"It was just like any other road trip that June day.  While we ate breakfast, the Basenjis had theirs, followed by a walk up the street, past the beach, and home to the crates in the car.  At 19 years of age Kiasa only walked with us on the shorter walks such as this.  Our destination was the BRaT Convention near Syracuse, NY, a leisurely drive of 5 hours.  We arrived in plenty of time to unpack, get our bearings, and walk our Basenjis - Kiasa, Zuri, Stari, and Snoopers, a BRaT foster.

When we returned from the Meet and Greet, we found Kiasa had refused to eat and had an accident in her crate.   We realized Kiasa's time with us was coming to a close.

On Friday, June 13, Kiasa received an award for being the oldest Basenji present at the 12th Annual BRaT Convention!  We left to drive to a local veterinarian who would help Kiasa on her way - a vet that Kiasa never needed!  Kiasa's cremains came to us in a little gold box this past week. We know she is running healthy and free at the Rainbow Bridge!

Kiasa loved her crate and she loved to eat!  She was adept at removing the squeaker from every stuffed toy we bought!  Kiasa met each and every foster Basenji we took into our home over the last 13 years, making them feel welcome.  Kiasa traveled with us by car logging over 250,000 miles as we visited family and friends in the United States and Canada.  Kiasa made herself comfortable choosing a bed in a suitcase when we stopped at night!   Kiasa favored the top of the picnic table to bask in the sun!

Would we have done it any other way?  Absolutely not!  Our life with Kiasa began in 2001 when we drove 900 miles to meet a rescued Basenji named Valentine, and her foster mom.  We gave that timid little Basenji a new name for her new life.  Kiasa gave us much more!  What a better time to begin her final journey than on a road trip with us."
