Some Comments on Page 6 by Cindy Griswold, September 13, 2001 [Cindy was flying home from Phoenix Tuesday] I have been in touch with both Susan Marsicano and Carol Webb today and they both indicated that they had received several emails wondering how I and my dogs were doing and also some offers of help. I just want to say thanks for keeping us in your thoughts and for offering to help. The people in Cincinnati were great. One of the airline employees drove me and another person around the town looking for a non existent car to rent, also to the bus station which turned out to be closed. When our efforts proved futile we were offered a place to stay and dinner. Yesterday when the buses started running a ride back to the bus depot was provided where I hopped one for Cleveland which is as close to NY state as they would go. A good friend of mine picked me up at the terminal and we drove through the night to get home so that we could be back to the kennel that I had boarded a couple of my male dogs for my trip. My other 4 dogs, of which three were in season, one of my neighbors expertly coached by Susan, fed and locked my dogs in the house for the night. He came down each morning to let them out again. So through the help of some nice people we all came out in good shape for which I am very grateful. I was happy to read that many friends and family came through this and hope that there are more happy stories to come.
by Joanne Callahan, September 13, 2001 Eddie a cop for 20 years in NYC. When he came home Tuesday night he was covered in white ash. He said there were bodies and body parts everywhere. He saw a hand on the curb, a foot still in it's shoe. Just awful. Today I spoke to a neighbor of mine, he's a young rookie P.O. he witnessed a torso in one of the plane seats just sitting there on the street! Eddie’s comments: The devastation brought on by this terrorist attack is totally unbelievable. Worse than anyone could ever imagine without seeing it first hand. It reminds me of the Mad Max movies with Mel Gibson where the whole world has been leveled by nuclear weapons. It really pisses me off that these people had the balls to attack a totally civilian building filled with normal everyday working people. This is truly an attack on humanity. As soon as we find out the responsible parties, there should be the highest level of retaliation possible. LEVEL THEM. Well, that's what he said when he came home. I'm glad he's not a youngster, he'd be enlisting!
by Mike Reed, September 12, 2001 We are fine. I was walking Scrapper in the morning when all the helicopters started buzzing and then my mother called.
by Xan Raskin, September 14, 2001 Everyone please hug your bs for me - our neighborhood may have lost of one its own. Laura and her dog JT, a shepherd-mix, frequented our dog run and were "regulars." We are all a little community of dog lovers making it work here in the big city. Laura lived just down the street from me so we often stopped to say hello and let the dogs greet each other. JT and Seneca would play together in the dog run and Laura and I would sit and chat on the benches and watch the dogs play.
JT always was wearing his blue harness. I'll remember the day Laura took it off in the dog run. I said, "He looks naked" and Laura and I laughed together because sure enough, JT has this bewildered look on his face like he just realized he had no clothes on! I only knew her well enough to know she was warm and kind and a true dog person - she let the doggies put their muddy paw prints on her and just laughed.
Laura worked in Windows on the World, the restaurant at the top of the WTC and has not been heard from since Tuesday morning. There is a photo of her hugging JT up in the run, and JT is being cared for upstate, but it can't replace the smiling laid back woman I knew...
by Tamara Allen, September 12, 2001 [Tamara is a structural engineer] A dumb architect called me today and left a message asking what I felt the "Design flaw" was in that structure since it collapsed. Gads. So I called him back and I said the design flaw was the "architect since he did not provide and detail fire protection sufficient to not melt the steel with inferno like heat". Stuck him, didn't I? I thought so. by Jon Campbell hey its jon writing to let you know first of all that i'm ok I can't believe what is happening, I can't believe what I have just seen. I left to get my camera and came back and Carter tells me that while I was Carter and I kept telling one another that we couldn't believe what we were 40 minutes or so later or maybe an hour --I'm not sure -- the second tower It's 11 45 now and the smoke is still huge....
