Al looks like the king cat he is, his favorite places to be are in a sunbeam or with a dog (he loves dogs!) or, preferably, both. He had three homes before he found our barn in NY and he never left us. Ray made him Estate Manager............................LOTTE HOTALING

Before you get a dog, you can't quite imagine what living with one might be like; afterward, you can't imagine living any other way.

Małgorzata Osińska

Quote from Sandra Dee:

From time to time people tell me, "relax, it's just a dog." If you also think it's "just a dog", This could also use terms such as: "just a friend", "just a sunrise", "just a promise". "just a dog" brought into my life, the essence of friendship, trust, and pure unbridled joy. " just a dog ' shows me compassion and patience that make me a better person.

Because of "just a dog" I get up in the morning, I go for long walks and look to the future with peace. Because for me and people like me, it's not "just a dog", but the embodiment of all hopes and dreams of the future, good memories and pure joy from the moment that lasts. "just a dog" brings out what's good in me and diverts my thoughts away from me and daily concerns.

I hope that one day they realize it's not "just a dog", But who is teaching me humanity and makes me much more than "just a man". Next time you hear the phrase "it's just a dog" just smile - they just don't understand.

Hi Susan

Please pardon my slowness in responding to the generosity of the Rip Van Wrinkle Club. We have been going through some busy times and are way behind on many things but we would like to thank you profusely for the generous help. We have a lot of old-timers who have extra needs so your generous gift is being put to good use. I am hoping to have time in the next week or so do send you an update and a better thank you.

We have a wonderful guy named Ray Colglazier who now lives in Georgia and adopted two Basenjis from us in the past. He very recently had to put his beloved Enzo to sleep and is in search of another furface to fill a void. Enzo was one of the most difficult Basenjis we ever placed having been damaged by two previous owners. When Ray lost his last Basenji I called to let him know we had a boy here who needed him as much as he needed Enzo. I do not know if anyone else could have dealt with the issues Enzo had but Ray And Enzo bonded into an incredible pair.

Ray is not in a rush but would like to find a healthy Basenji who is not too old who needs a great home.

If you have anyone or know anyone with a Basenji needing a home, please let me know or call Ray at 912-222-1464. Ray’s email is Raymondcolglazier@gmail.com. Any help finding him a new buddy would be so appreciated.

THROW-BACK FEEDBACK

A Sense of Propriety, by Debby Mayer

Lulu hasn’t spent that much time in hotels or motels . . . more pertinent to her experience is our home in Hudson, where she has now spent half her life. Downstairs consists of three large rooms: the music room; the middle room, where we hang out; and the kitchen/eating area (we both eat there), with a WC and laundry roomette. These are the Public Rooms. Upstairs are the Living Quarters, consisting of the bedroom, Lulu’s room, bathroom, dressing room, and my office. For an inordinately long time this spring/summer, we’ve endured a partial renovation of the upstairs bathroom. This requires large men to arrive at 8 a.m. and tromp up the stairs, through the bedroom and the dressing room, to the bathroom, where they’ve replaced the tub and tiles and repainted the walls.

Lulu, I’ve realized, is horrified at this breach of our quarters. I mean, she’s ten, and she has a strong sense of propriety, which, in her eyes, I lack. The men are perfectly nice and have their own dogs at home, but still. She stares at me, demanding to know why I allow this to happen: Have you no pride? She dogs my steps, afraid that I might possibly leave her in charge of the situation. The worst days are when we have to leave the men upstairs by themselves and go to the office (like me, Lulu is a woiking goil). Returning in the evening, we both rush upstairs, me to check out the work, Lulu to search each room, confirming that no intruder remains.

Susan,
The Wrinkler is a treasure, as always. The photos and articles will be savored and enjoyed several times. And, thank you so much for the lovely memorials for Dasa and other lost loved ones. Well done.

BE AWARE OF HELIOTROPE!

Shared by my friend Margaret Howes:

"FB friends, we got the biopsy report back and with great sorrow I must share this....Our darling girl died from the toxin in this plant that I have on my deck. It is called heliotrope and is highly toxic, causes total liver destruction. The pathologist said our angel had the worst liver damage he's ever seen. Goldie would nibble at the leaves of this plant every so often and we had no clue it was toxic. (It can come in white or purple.) Please share with any dog owners you know to hopefully prevent their dog from becoming a statistic like Goldie. We are even more heartbroken now knowing her death was preventable. Please share her story so that something positive may come of it and create awareness of toxic plants. Our own vet had no idea this was a toxic plant!!" Alicia Harrison
