“At my left is Melanie Young, who presented her book, Getting Things Off My Chest. I don't know who the woman in the striped pullover is. Notice that I am wearing a "wrap" with an African scene on the back . . .”

S K-M's summer neighbors Mark Statman & Katherine Koch, have been on a country wide book reading tour. Fun that Debby knew Katherine way back in the West Village. Poem below by Mark.

Cannonball (their lab) has been along for all the doings. Photo on Muse Road.

Cannonball

sleeping on the porch
his whole body twitches
paws, legs, his chest heaves
as though he’s running chasing
he growls, then three little yips
almost wakes himself up
what he’s heard
inside his dream
now in waking life

his head lifts slightly
eyes half-open

no this isn’t the place
of running, of growl,
of chase
eyes closed again
and there it is

in woods, in fields
following what?
a scent
a sound?

he stretches
no longer running
still asleep and dreaming
of now asleep and dreaming
