"The next generation" t-in abou Teka Basenjis.

by Dagmar Herfhoffer

In 1997 I was looking for my first Basenji. I visited the basenji breeder: Uschi Grewe.  It was love at the first sight when she opened the door, and her four basenjis where standing there and had a look at me.

I loved each of them. But the most impressing was the male one: Alibaba.
A wonderful tri-colored basenji.

He had the idea to share the cake with us. While we were talking Ali stood on the table and tried the cake, as if to see if it was good enough for us....

Anyway, I traveled home and dreamt of me and my own basenji. It came true a few month later with an puppy from Uschi.

This spring in 2013 I had the joy to see Uschi’s litter. The little star for me was, “AJ“ - Alibaba Junior.  15 years later after my first visit there was another Ali in Uschi’s home.  The next generation. It was amazing for me to see Ali Junior.  And to rekindle all the great memories of the past. And now in autumn its funny to hear that AJ has that same temperament and the many crazy ideas like Alibaba senior had.

This is a painting I made of "AJ" (Ali junior), when he was a puppy in spring this year.

Silly AJ
