How it came to be.   In May, the Tulsa Sight hound Association was asked by the AKC if we could host this year’s National Lure Coursing Championship, as the club which had bid on the event had to cancel, and the AKC was considering cancelling the event for 2013.  Normally a club has over a year to plan and fundraise to put on a national event.  I am a board member in this club and we deliberated for a few days on what it would take to host the event, the field was not a problem, and we felt we could convince enough personnel from other clubs to help us run the event, so the main project boiled down to fund raising.   Sponsors and catalog ads make up a portion of the startup money needed for the event as will silent auction items at the event.  I looked at various items that I could make to assist in raising startup funds, and decided that tug toys in fleece and fleece and fur might be popular.  My goal was to raise $500 in profits by our Sept fundraising deadline to allow us to purchase the ribbons and trophies for the event.  I made a few prototypes of the design and sold those at our May trial. After tweaking the design based on customer input, I placed a notice on Face Book that I was selling tug toys to raise funds for the NLCC.  Little did I know I would receive orders for nearly 100 items in 3 days.   Fortunately I had ordered enough fleece and fur to handle the initial surge, so for the next week I spent every free minute cutting fabric and fur and braiding the results.  The postman came to know me by name that week, as I was there every morning with a dozen or more packages to mail.

In February I went to our local fabric store looking for a low cost serger to make better whippet jammies.  My whippet, Scotti, wants to be in flannel jammies nearly year round.  I had created a pattern for her and started making my own for her and rescue donations the year before.  Instead of a serger, I purchased a used Viking Embroidery machine and received 3 free classes on how to use it.  This adventure was kind of like eating potato chips, you can’t have just one.  Once I learned how to use the machine, and started buying designs from the various embroidery libraries, developing my own designs was only one step away.  I made that step last month by purchasing the embroidery editing software and have been enjoying making my own designs for a variety of uses.

Several people had asked if I could do special orders for them, so I decided to set up a site for my products.  I currently offer tug toys, custom embroidered conformation ring squeaker toys , and embroidery on a number of products.  I am always open to new ideas, and several of my products have started out as special requests from friends.  I try to keep my embroidery costs low by shopping seasonal sales for clothing vs buying out of a full price catalog, so please be patient, while I locate the color you would like.
